Background of the Study

Workplace safety culture refers to the shared attitudes, beliefs, and practices within an organization that prioritize employee health and safety. In the manufacturing industry, workplace safety is crucial in preventing occupational hazards, reducing workplace accidents, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards (Oluwasegun & Adebayo, 2023). Dangote Flour Mills, a leading player in Nigeria’s flour production sector, operates in an environment where employees are exposed to risks such as machinery-related injuries, exposure to chemicals, and fire hazards.

Ensuring a strong workplace safety culture in Dangote Flour Mills is essential for employee well-being, productivity, and legal compliance. However, despite safety regulations, workplace accidents continue to occur, raising concerns about the effectiveness of safety policies and employee adherence to safety protocols (Adigun & Hassan, 2024). This study examines workplace safety culture at Dangote Flour Mills, Niger State, with a focus on employee perception, management commitment, and the effectiveness of safety training programs.

Statement of the Problem

Despite existing safety policies at Dangote Flour Mills, Niger State, workplace accidents and injuries persist. This raises concerns about the level of safety culture within the organization. Employees may not fully comply with safety protocols due to inadequate training, negligence, or lack of enforcement mechanisms. Additionally, management commitment to workplace safety is crucial in fostering a positive safety culture, but there is limited research on its role within Dangote Flour Mills. This study seeks to investigate these issues and provide recommendations for improving workplace safety culture.
